GWION GRIFFITHS SHOCKS TRAWSFYNYDD AND BALA WITH DISTURBING INDECENT ACT NEAR SCHOOL

In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Trawsfynydd and Bala, Gwion Wyn Griffiths, a 24-year-old man, was found guilty of performing a sexual act in a bedroom window of his residence while nearly 40 young children were walking across the school yard opposite his home on their way to the lunch canteen. The incident took place in Trawsfynydd, a village known for its quiet rural setting, and the case was heard at Caernarfon Crown Court.

According to court reports, Griffiths, who was residing at Cefn Gwyn in Trawsfynydd at the time of the offence, had been observed by teachers inside the school premises of Trawsfynydd School. Although none of the children who passed by saw his actions, the teachers' observations confirmed his presence and behavior. It was revealed that Griffiths had performed a sexual act in front of a bedroom window, an act that was clearly intended to be seen, even though no children directly witnessed it.

At the time of the incident, Griffiths was temporarily living with a relative in Bala, a nearby town. He admitted to engaging in sexual activity in front of a child, a serious offense that led to his sentencing last Thursday. The court sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses. Additionally, Judge David Hale imposed a supervision order lasting two years, requiring Griffiths to adhere to specific conditions and be under the oversight of probation officers.

Furthermore, the judge issued an exclusion order that prohibits Griffiths from being near the school during term time, emphasizing the community's concern for the safety of its children. The court also mandated that Griffiths live at a location directed by the Probation Service. For a period of five years, he is required to stay away from anyone under the age of 16, and he must register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Richard Edwards, the prosecutor, clarified that there was no evidence suggesting that any of the children actually saw Griffiths during his act. Defense lawyer Jonathan Austin highlighted that Griffiths had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and had no prior convictions, which he argued should be taken into account during sentencing.

In delivering his judgment, Judge Hale acknowledged that Griffiths faced several social challenges. He explained that Griffiths had deliberately positioned himself on the bed to be visible from the window, indicating a clear intention to be seen. Although there was no direct evidence that the pupils saw him, the judge emphasized that his actions were designed to attract attention, which raised significant concerns about his behavior and the potential risk to children in the community.
