REIGATE MAN JAILED FOR 87-YEAR-OLD WOMAN'S MURDER
Guy Unmack, aged 46 and residing on Warren Road in Reigate, was found guilty of the murder of Rosemary Hill.The victim was attacked while gathering herbs on Warren Road on June 21, 2020.
Witnesses reported that Unmack struck Hill over the head with a cricket bat during an unprovoked assault.
Rosemary Hill died from a severe head injury caused by the blow and passed away in hospital four days later, on June 25, 2020.
The case was classified as an unprovoked attack, with a post-mortem confirming death resulted from a severe blunt force trauma to the head.
Unmack was initially detained shortly after the incident but was considered mentally unfit for questioning and was detained under a Mental Health Act involuntary order, before being transferred to a secure hospital.
Once deemed fit for interview, he was re-arrested and formally charged with her murder.
After a trial lasting about ten days, Unmack was convicted on June 10 of murder and was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years.
Surrey Police offered their sympathies to Rosemary Hill's family and described the assault as shocking and entirely unprovoked.
