* update- A child sex offender fled by swimming across a river estuary to avoid arrest.Guy Brigdale thought he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for oral sex at a retail location in Llanelli, but he was actually communicating with a police decoy online.
During these exchanges, Brigdale claimed to be 18 years old.
The conversation soon turned sexual, with Brigdale, aged 34 from Fforestfach, instructing what he believed was a schoolgirl to perform sexual acts and send images.
He also sent videos of himself masturbating.
He was registered as a sex offender for life in 2017 and was later given a 12-year extended sentence due to his classification as a dangerous offender.
_______________________________________________ A man named Guy Brigdale has been sentenced to three years in prison and has been registered as a sex offender for life after attempting to contact a young girl via social media and encouraging her to send explicit photographs.
Swansea Crown Court heard that 26-year-old Brigdale messaged the girl on Facebook with the intent of persuading her to take and send indecent pictures.
However, a family member of the victim discovered some of the messages on the girl’s phone.
To help protect the girl, the family member posed as her and continued communicating with Brigdale.
Police were subsequently involved, leading to Brigdale’s arrest at an address in Swansea.
Brigdale, of Heol y Cae, Pontarddulais, had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a girl under 16 to send him photographs during his court appearance today.
It was clarified that the address in Pontarddulais is not where the offending took place.
Representing Brigdale, Stuart John stated that his client acknowledged having 'issues' and expressed a desire to seek help.
Judge Keith Thomas noted that he had reviewed a probation report indicating Brigdale’s 'particular sexual interest' in such matters.
The judge also highlighted that Brigdale planned to meet the girl, who is protected by anonymity laws.
The judge warned Brigdale: 'You were grooming her and you would have committed more serious offences if given the opportunity.' As part of the sentence, Brigdale was sentenced to three years in prison, placed on the sex offenders register for life, and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The order prohibits him from making unauthorized contact with under-16s and from deleting his internet search histories.
