DUNFERMLINE CHIP SHOP IMMIGRANT RAPIST JAILED AT THE HIGH COURT IN EDINBURGH

A 61-year-old man involved in a chip shop attempted to sexually assault an intoxicated woman after giving her a lift home.

Guray Eskicioglu targeted the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, at a residence in Dunfermline on April 29, 2022.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told that Eskicioglu, also a resident of Dunfermline, had developed a relationship with the victim through his employment at a fast food outlet in the city.

It was revealed during the trial that he frequently offered her lifts, leading her to feel secure in his company. However, on the night of the incident, Eskicioglu violated her trust and sexually assaulted her.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Prior to sentencing, defense lawyer Gordon Martin informed Judge Lady Carmichael that his client had admitted to a court-appointed social worker that he was sorry for any distress caused to the victim.

The jury found Eskicioglu guilty of attempted rape, concluding he assaulted her while she was asleep and unable to consent, then removed her clothing to commit the assault.

Eskicioglu denied the allegations during the proceedings, but the victim provided evidence of the attack, stating she had been out with a friend and had asked him for a ride.

She explained she felt ill during the journey and vomited out of his car window.

She fell asleep at his house and awoke during the sexual assault, which Eskicioglu continued even after she woke up.

She recounted that he mounted her and she asked him to stop; he responded with “just a minute” multiple times.

“I was frozen. I got up and sat on the edge of the bed, asking where my belongings were,” she said.

She described leaving the house quickly afterward, rushing out the door.

The woman also stated she knew Eskicioglu through visits to his workplace at the chip shop, where he had previously given her lifts, always ensuring she got home safely.

During the court proceedings, Mr. Martin explained that Eskicioglu, a Turkish national living in the UK since 1998, was divorced in 2021.

He emphasized that Eskicioglu had contributed to his family and worked during his time in the UK.

Judge Lady Carmichael noted that the victim was intoxicated at the time of the offense and described Eskicioglu’s actions as opportunistic and predatory.

She highlighted the lasting impact on the victim and sentenced Eskicioglu to serve a custodial sentence, also ordering him to register as a sex offender for life.
