GRAZVYDAS GUDAVICIUS SHOCKS BANFF WITH SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND VIOLENCE INCIDENTS

In a disturbing series of events that have shaken the small town of Banff, Grazvydas Gudavicius, a 20-year-old man, has been found guilty of multiple serious offences involving young girls and violent threats. The incidents took place over a span of just two days in September, leaving the community in shock and authorities on high alert.

According to court reports, Gudavicius targeted three females during this period, two of whom were only 15 years old. The first incident occurred when he was intoxicated and approached a woman at a pavilion located beside the Airlie Gardens football pitches. Witnesses say he sexually assaulted her by groping her, an act that was both invasive and deeply troubling. Following this assault, Gudavicius issued a series of violent threats, explicitly stating his intention to “repeatedly stab” her and three other individuals who were present at the scene. This threat of violence added a dangerous dimension to his behaviour, prompting immediate concern from local law enforcement.

The very next day, Gudavicius visited the Tesco supermarket situated on Carmelite Street in Banff. It was here that he continued his pattern of inappropriate conduct, targeting two 15-year-old girls. Court documents reveal that he inappropriately touched them by rubbing their legs and, in one case, grabbing a girl by the wrists. His actions outside the supermarket did not stop there; he was involved in an altercation that escalated into violence, during which he punched a man multiple times. When police apprehended him, Gudavicius attempted to deny the allegations, claiming that the accusations were part of a conspiracy against him. He told social workers that the claims were fabricated, an assertion that was met with skepticism by the authorities.

During his court appearances, Gudavicius initially maintained his innocence, dismissing the allegations as false. However, at a hearing earlier this month before Sheriff Graeme Napier at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, he was confronted with evidence and a report indicating that he was now acknowledging the events. Despite this, the report also stated that he claimed he did not intend to cause harm and denied most of the offences. Sheriff Napier was critical of his initial denial, describing his story as “nonsense” and warning that if he continued to deny responsibility, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.

In a subsequent court session held yesterday, Gudavicius appeared again, and Sheriff Napier was presented with a report confirming that he was now accepting responsibility for his actions. Nevertheless, the report highlighted that he still maintained that he did not intend to harm anyone and that he denied the majority of the charges. The sheriff expressed concern over his attitude, stating, “(On the last occasion) he told me explicitly he now accepts responsibility. It does not augur well.”

It is important to note that these crimes occurred while Gudavicius was on bail. Prior to the court proceedings, he had already served several months in the Polmont young offenders institute, a detention facility for young offenders. Taking into account his previous incarceration, Sheriff Napier sentenced him to a combination of punitive measures. He is required to complete 160 hours of unpaid community work within the next nine months and must wear an electronic monitoring tag for seven months. This electronic tag will restrict his movements, preventing him from leaving a family member’s address on Old Market Place in Banff between 7 pm and 6 am every night, with the restrictions gradually easing to weekends only.

Additionally, Gudavicius is mandated to undergo a sex offender treatment programme in Aberdeen and will be subject to a two-year registration on the sex offender register. These measures are intended to monitor his behaviour and prevent any further incidents, reflecting the severity of his actions and the community’s need for safety and justice.
