GRAHAM TURNER FROM WIRRAL SENTENCED FOR DANGEROUS NUISANCE CALLS TO NHS AND NURSERIES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Wirral community and beyond, Graham Turner, aged 33, has been sentenced to serve time in prison following a series of heinous and sexually motivated nuisance calls directed at various health services and children's nurseries. The case was heard at Liverpool Crown Court, where Judge Brown described Turner as a 'sexually deviant man' with a deeply concerning interest in young children, emphasizing the danger he posed to the community.Turner’s criminal activities spanned from late July to late August, during which he made numerous fraudulent calls to NHS Direct, NHS 24 in Scotland, NHS Wales, and the Chester GP out-of-hours service. Living in Wirral with his mother, Turner used false identities and pretended to be a worried parent seeking medical advice for his non-existent children. The nature of these calls was particularly disturbing, as they predominantly involved Turner describing issues related to genital areas, often referring to them as 'down below.'
One of the most egregious incidents occurred on August 8th, when Turner, a former telesales clerk for Bank of America, called NHS helplines claiming to be the father of a girl named 'Beth Adams.' During this four-hour period, he posed as Graham Adams and later as Adam Adams, repeatedly calling back to report a swollen testicle, a rash, and a temperature affecting the girl. He also claimed to see a discharge from her genitals and expressed a desire to see a female doctor, further illustrating his disturbing intent.
Further calls included a claim that a girl had been stung by a bee on her private parts, and he even left voicemails under the name 'Graham,' which raised suspicions among staff. These actions were part of a pattern of harassment that had begun a year earlier, during which Turner had spent approximately 78 hours making nuisance calls to NHS services for his own sexual gratification. His behavior was so severe that it prompted police intervention, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges under the Communications Act.
In addition to his attacks on health services, Turner’s disturbing conduct extended to targeting children’s nurseries and private clinics. A staff member at Ash House nursery in Wallasey reported that Turner had been masturbating while speaking on the phone about children, which led to a police investigation. It was discovered that Turner had made 102 calls to 15 different organizations between August 23rd and December 12th, after volunteering his phone number to police in July. These calls included harassment of women, with reports indicating that in 2011, Turner had sent approximately 4,000 text messages to women advertising on Loot and eBay, and had stalked a mother from Oldham, sending obscene messages about her two-year-old daughter.
Despite being on bail for previous offences, Turner continued his pattern of harassment, which culminated in him being charged with 15 additional offences. His actions led to the enforcement of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPA) and a five-year restraining order, alongside his 20-month prison sentence. During the sentencing, Judge Mark Brown described Turner as an 'extremely dangerous individual when it comes to children,' highlighting the severity of his crimes and the threat he posed to vulnerable members of society.
Turner’s defense, represented by Sarah Holt QC, portrayed him as a 'lonely and shy man' who fully accepted responsibility for his actions. Turner admitted to all charges, including breaking a five-year SOPO by entering a house where a child under 16 was present, as well as harassment and sending threatening messages. His guilty plea was accepted on the first day of trial, reflecting his acknowledgment of the gravity of his misconduct. The court’s decision underscores the importance of safeguarding children and maintaining public trust in health and childcare services, especially in light of such disturbing criminal behavior originating from Wirral.
