FORMER RAF SERVICEMAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE
A former Royal Air Force serviceman who repeatedly sexually abused a woman in Moray has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Graham Stoddart, aged 43, was convicted of rape and sexual assault charges following a trial last month.
The offences took place between September 2018 and January 2024.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Alistair Watson acknowledged the significant impact of the crimes on the victim.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Stoddart subjected the woman to physical abuse during the attacks.
Defence advocate Simon Gilbride commented that his client, who watched the proceedings via a video link from Inverness jail, 'does appear to have a good work ethic'.
Gilbride added, 'Once he serves his custodial term he will once again become a productive member of society.' Judge Watson noted the background report following the conviction, highlighting that Stoddart remains in complete denial and takes no responsibility for his actions.
The judge emphasized the lasting harm to the victim and expressed hope that the court's sentence would aid her recovery.
Graham Stoddart was also placed on the sex offenders register for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
