GRAHAM FITCHIE'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY RING IN MERSTHAM REVEALED

In July 1997, Graham Fitchie, a 37-year-old resident of Merstham, Surrey, was sentenced to three years in prison by Guildford Crown Court after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a vast collection of child abuse images and videos.

The investigation uncovered that Fitchie had stored an alarming total of 10,751 photographs, 81 video recordings, and over 500 pages of disturbing stories related to child sexual abuse on his computer's hard disks and CD drives.

His arrest was linked to a broader police operation targeting online child pornography networks.

The authorities traced the material back to Fitchie after a paedophile, currently serving a six-year prison sentence, provided information to the police.

This inmate had been caught with a video depicting an indecent assault on an 11-year-old boy.

From his cell, the prisoner identified Fitchie as the individual who had both filmed and participated in the assault.

Further investigations revealed that Fitchie’s home in Merstham contained what was described as the largest collection of Internet-based child pornography ever discovered in Britain at that time.

The police uncovered that Fitchie had established a network of other paedophiles, distributing the illicit material through a secret online system protected by a password, making it accessible to a global audience of offenders.

Fitchie admitted to charges of sending obscene photographs and films via the Internet, as well as the indecent assault on the young boy depicted in the video.

His guilty plea led to his imprisonment for three years.

During the sentencing, Judge John Bull expressed his concern over the international revulsion towards Internet-based child abuse and emphasized the danger Fitchie posed.

The judge stated, “I am driven to believe that you represent a serious and significant danger to young children in the future.” It was also revealed during the trial that Fitchie had been actively distributing this material for over a year, primarily involving young boys.

The police indicated that his collection was part of a wider network, with access restricted to those who knew the secret password, thus facilitating the distribution of child pornography across borders.

Grant Armstrong, representing Fitchie, argued that his client was highly regarded by his employers, who reportedly indicated they would rehire him.

He also noted that Fitchie owned property and was considered an ordinary member of the community.

Despite these claims, authorities emphasized the severity of Fitchie’s crimes.

Detective Constable Alex Lynn from Surrey police stated that investigators were using Fitchie’s computer records to trace other paedophiles worldwide, highlighting the ongoing efforts to dismantle such networks and protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
