DUNDEE CYCLIST JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULTS ON PENSIONER AND ANOTHER MAN
Graeme Brankin, described as being "super angry," has received a custodial sentence after assaulting two fellow cyclists in Dundee. The court heard that he pursued and assaulted a 72-year-old man following a dispute over right of way on Dundee’s High Street.
Brankin struck the elderly man so hard that his eye socket and cheekbone were fractured, leading to the insertion of three metal plates into his face.
Although Brankin initially denied the charges, he was convicted after trial at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Nearly a year later, he also assaulted another man, Alastair Bruce, in Claypotts Park by shouting, punching him repeatedly, and rendering him unconscious.
Witnesses assisted Mr.
Bruce after the attack, which necessitated medical treatment.
While imprisoned at HMP Perth, Brankin was convicted of two counts of causing serious injury through assault, and the court sentenced him to 30 months in prison plus a 12-month period of supervised release.
Sheriff George Way highlighted the seriousness of the assault on an elderly individual and its severe consequences.
Brankin, a father of four, was also undergoing anger management courses during his time in custody, and the court deemed a prison sentence appropriate given his conduct.
