GORDON BURNETT FROM SUSSEX ARRESTED IN JERSEY FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT NEW YEAR'S PARTY

A 64-year-old man identified as Gordon Burnett, hailing from Sussex, found himself at the center of a serious criminal case following an incident that occurred during a New Year's celebration on the Channel Island of Jersey. Burnett had traveled from Sussex to Jersey specifically to attend a party marking the arrival of 2024. However, his visit took a dark turn when he was detained by authorities shortly after midnight, resulting in his arrest on charges of sexual assault.

The incident involved a teenage girl who was attending the same party. The girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, recounted the distressing events during a court hearing held at Jersey's Royal Court on Thursday. According to her testimony, Burnett approached her in a manner that was both unwelcome and inappropriate. He reportedly placed his arm around her shoulders in a manner that suggested familiarity, but the situation quickly escalated when he proceeded to lift her skirt and insert his hand inside her underwear.
