WEYMOUTH MAN ADMITS TO ASSAULTING PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND TWICE

A MAN assaulted his heavily pregnant girlfriend on two occasions including biting her, a court heard.

Gob Marquez, of Cornflower Close, Littlemoor, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and causing criminal damage to property.

The first assault happened at his partner's home on May 25 this year and the second, more serious, attack happened at the property on May 30.

In the first incident, magistrates heard that Marquez, aged 24, came home in the early hours of the morning with white powder round his nose and he had also been drinking.

Elizabeth Valera, prosecuting, said the defendant's partner was 33 weeks pregnant at the time.

She asked him to take a shower which caused an argument to arise.

Mrs Valera said: “He threw a bottle against the wall which caused damage to the wall.” Marquez kicked items for the baby in the room and as his partner tried to get up from the floor and asked him to stop, he said “I don’t give a ****.” In the second incident, the court heard that Marquez, who had taken cocaine, came home late at night after his partner told him she wasn’t feeling well.

The defendant pushed her to the floor after another argument started.

Mrs Valera said the victim was taken to hospital and “had to take antibiotics as it had transpired that he had bit her.” Mrs Valera said that in interview Marquez told police he could not remember anything about the assaults "because of the state he was in.” Simon Lacey, mitigating, said Marquez was regretful he did not remove himself from the situation and was “sorry for the way he handled it.” He said Marquez was born in the Philippines and came to the UK aged nine.

David Ruston, chair of the bench at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court, adjourned the case for a pre-sentencing report to be prepared.

Marquez will be sentenced on Wednesday, November 5.

Mr Ruston told the defendant: “We feel we need to know a bit more about you before you are sentenced.” Marquez was granted bail, on the condition that he does not contact his partner, or to go anywhere where she may be.

He is also restricted from entering St Mary Street between the Esplanade and Bond Street.
