GLENN ROBERTS AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER BREACHES IN CLWYD

Glenn Michael Roberts, a resident of Kinmel Avenue in Abergele, found himself back in the courts in Caernarfon after admitting to committing three breaches of a court order related to his status as a sex offender. Despite a previous conviction that led to a 12-month jail sentence, Roberts avoided immediate imprisonment for these recent breaches, which prompted a serious judicial response.

Roberts, aged 31, had been convicted the previous year for the illegal possession and distribution of highly extreme indecent images of children. Today, during the proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, the prosecution, led by Mr. Michael Whitty, outlined the specific violations Roberts committed. It was revealed that Roberts had violated the terms of his sex offender registration by using an alias on a swingers dating website, a move that was undertaken without reporting it to police authorities as required. Additionally, he failed to disclose that a minor under the age of 18 was in his company during interactions, and he did not inform police of any change in his residential address. These breaches were deemed serious violations of the legal conditions imposed upon him.

Further troubling details emerged about Roberts’ conduct after his release from custody. It was disclosed that Roberts had formed a personal relationship with a woman met through an online dating platform. The couple agreed to meet, and their relationship continued for a period during which they spent time together at her home, even with her young child present. Notably, Roberts was left alone with the child for approximately 20 minutes while the woman took a shower, raising significant concerns about his suitability to be around children. They also spent multiple days out together, engaging in various outings.

The prosecution also highlighted an incident where Roberts communicated with his father by phone, using a different name to conceal his identity. When questioned about this by the woman he was seeing, Roberts' deception was uncovered, prompting her to contact the authorities. This sequence of events further demonstrated breaches of his legal obligations and raised public safety concerns.

In sentencing, Judge Huw Rees emphasized the importance of ongoing supervision and the necessity of measures to prevent Roberts from having contact with children. Roberts is already subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting until 2026 and remains on the sex offenders register. The judge made clear that Roberts was to have no contact with children whatsoever and stressed that further work was needed to address his tendencies.

The court sentenced Roberts to a three-year community order, which includes participation in a sexual offenders’ rehabilitation program spanning 56 days. The judge described this as Roberts’ final opportunity to address his issues and indicated that further restrictions and interventions are essential to protect the public.

The case has had a profound impact on Roberts’ partner, who revealed that she had lived a lie for 13 years, only discovering Roberts' true crimes two weeks prior to his court appearance. Her revelations have added a layer of human tragedy to an already serious case, underscoring the devastating effects of sexual offenses on families and loved ones in the Clwyd area.
