GLENN JONES FROM TONBRIDGE JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SHOREHAM
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Glenn Jones, a 56-year-old man from Tutsham Way, Tonbridge, was arrested after traveling approximately 50 miles with the apparent intention of engaging in sexual activities with a child. The incident took place at a shopping centre in Shoreham, where Jones believed he would meet a young individual for illicit purposes.Jones’s plans were abruptly halted when he was confronted by officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit. The police had been monitoring his activities, and upon his arrival at the designated location, they moved swiftly to arrest him on September 25 of the previous year. The arrest marked the culmination of an extensive investigation into his intentions and prior criminal history.
Jones, who formerly served as a police inspector with Thames Valley Police, faced serious charges related to child sex offences. His trial at Guildford Crown Court concluded on February 13, where a jury unanimously found him guilty of the charges. As a result, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Additionally, he will be subject to a further three years on licence, meaning he will be under supervision after his release from prison.
During the court proceedings, Jones attempted to defend his actions by claiming that he had no intention of committing any abuse and that his actions were driven by mere curiosity. However, the evidence presented by the police investigation painted a different picture. It was revealed that between August 6 and September 25 of the previous year, Jones had spent considerable time planning and arranging the meeting, indicating premeditation rather than accidental curiosity.
It is also noteworthy that Jones was already a registered sex offender prior to this incident. He had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, which underscores the severity of his criminal history and the ongoing threat he posed to the community. His arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and the ongoing efforts to protect children from sexual exploitation.
