SOUTH SHIELDS CADET INSTRUCTOR GLEN STANBURY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN NORTH EAST
In a case that has shocked the community of South Shields, Glen Stanbury, a 29-year-old former army cadet instructor, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls.The crimes, which took place in the North East region, have left a lasting scar on the victims and have raised serious concerns about safeguarding within youth organizations.
Stanbury was convicted after a jury at Newcastle Crown Court found him guilty of multiple charges.

Stanbury, who resides on Oak Avenue in South Shields, was ordered to sign the sex offenders register and will be permanently barred from working with children.

The court acknowledged Stanbury’s background, noting that he comes from a “respectable and caring” family, and that he had a “previous positive character.” In his defense, Tony Hawks argued that Stanbury’s family background was respectable and that he had a good reputation prior to these allegations.
However, Judge Moreland made it clear that Stanbury’s actions have caused significant distress not only to his victims but also to his family, who will undoubtedly be affected by his conviction.
