BRADFORD OFFENDER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER GROOMING
A man sexually assaulted a teenage girl after giving her and her friend alcohol and cannabis. The victim, whose identity is protected by law, believed she was 19 when their interactions began.
However, during the hearing at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, it was revealed that Kanteh was actually 27 at that time.
Currently 29 years old, Kanteh is facing deportation following the completion of two-thirds of his prison sentence, which was imposed after he admitted to charges including assault by penetration and sexual assault.
The court was told that although Kanteh, who had no previous convictions, expressed remorse through messages to the victim, he also threatened that she would face legal trouble for using cannabis if she reported the crime.
Victim impact statements read by her mother conveyed the emotional toll the incident had taken on both mother and daughter.
The judge, Sophie McKone, remarked that the girl had suffered considerable psychological damage.
She indicated that grooming was involved due to the significant age difference and the girl’s vulnerability, especially when she was sleeping.
The court noted that Kanteh’s conduct resulted in serious psychological harm, and he lacked empathy for the victim.
An aggravating factor was his intoxicated state during the offense.
Although the initial sentencing range was six years, pleas led to a reduced sentence of four years and six months.
Kanteh must also register as a sex offender indefinitely and adhere to a sexual harm prevention order.
The judge commented that deportation might prevent his release back into the community, stating, “It may be that you are not released into the community because you are deported.”
