GERAINT JEFFREYS FROM OSWESTRY JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRLS IN CHIRK

In a case that has shocked the local community, Geraint Jeffreys, a man from Oswestry, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with two underage girls in Chirk. The incident unfolded after Jeffreys, who was employed at a restaurant in Chirk, befriended two teenage girls, both aged 14, and subsequently exploited their trust for his own gratification.

The court heard that Jeffreys, who was 23 at the time, had initially met one of the girls while working at the restaurant. Their acquaintance quickly developed into a more personal connection, with Jeffreys reaching out to her via Facebook. The relationship escalated when he picked her up in his car, and during the encounter, the girl, who was intoxicated on cider, engaged in sexual activity with him. The court was informed that the girl did not feel pressured into the act and expressed her desire to be with Jeffreys, having told him she was 15.

Judge Rhys Rowlands presided over the case at Mold Crown Court and emphasized the importance of protecting children from exploitation. He stated, “The law is there to shield children, often from themselves,” and added, “Both girls were just that, they were still children in any normal person’s eyes.”

Jeffreys’s actions were further scrutinized when it was revealed that after one of the encounters, he sent a message to the girl while she was at school, advising her to take the morning-after pill, which she subsequently did. The second girl described feeling used, likening her experience to being “just another number,” highlighting the emotional toll of Jeffreys’s misconduct.

During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Matthew Curtis, detailed how Jeffreys initially denied knowing the girls upon arrest. He lied about his identity and then refused to comment during police questioning. The court also heard that Jeffreys had lied about the nature of his relationship with the girls, attempting to conceal his involvement.

Jeffreys’s defense lawyer, Mark Connor, described him as a young man of good character who would find imprisonment difficult. However, Judge Rowlands was unimpressed, stating that Jeffreys had shown little remorse or contrition. The judge remarked that Jeffreys appeared only sorry for himself and the impact on his own family, rather than for the harm caused to the girls.

Throughout the hearing, Jeffreys was visibly emotional, crying during much of the proceedings. Ultimately, the court sentenced him to 27 months in prison. Additionally, Jeffreys was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from contacting girls under 16 through social media platforms such as Facebook. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
