GEORGE WHEELER FROM BIRMINGHAM SENTENCED FOR ABUSING HIS DAUGHTERS IN NORWICH

In August 2014, George Wheeler, a 70-year-old former school caretaker from Birmingham, was sentenced for sexually abusing his two young daughters over a period of 14 years. Wheeler appeared at Norwich Crown Court, where he admitted to numerous charges, including 15 counts of indecent assault and 3 counts of attempted rape. The case involved what were described as 'specimen charges,' reflecting the extensive nature of his crimes, which are estimated to number over 1,000 sexual offenses.

The court heard that the abuse began when the sisters were just four and ten years old. The older girl was subjected to a decade of repeated abuse, while the younger was forced into hundreds of depraved acts over four years. The offenses took place across multiple locations, including Birmingham and Great Yarmouth.

Alarmingly, at the age of four, one of the girls confided in her mother about the abuse. However, her mother reacted with anger, scolding her and sending her to her room. The mother later informed her husband upon his return from work, and instead of intervening, she colluded with him to keep the abuse secret. Shockingly, no charges were brought against her.

Judge was told Wheeler was a highly dangerous sexual predator who critically damaged and traumatized his own daughters for many years. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with the requirement to serve at least half of that sentence. Wheeler was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

Upon release, Wheeler will be subject to various license conditions until 2020. It has been noted that he is due to be released from Norwich prison in August 2017 and plans to return to Gorleston to live with his wife.
