NORTH WALES OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR SECOND TIME IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASE
George Welsh, now aged 81, who previously fled to Spain, has been re-jailed for a second time for sexual offences involving a boy.
Welsh subjected the young victim to years of sexual abuse in the Wirral area during the 1980s, which included placing his hands down the teenager's shorts and performing sex acts, as well as forcing the boy to perform a sex act upon him.
The court heard that Welsh had tied the boy up while he slept prior to assaulting him, leaving him 'emotionally crippled.' Welsh's crimes also included a past conviction for 22 sexual offences against three teenage boys, which resulted in a 12-year sentence in 2008.
Despite fleeing to Spain to avoid trial, Welsh was eventually extradited back to the UK and convicted.
He was found guilty of 14 child sexual offences in a jury trial and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The judge emphasized Welsh's remorseless denial and poor health, which was taken into account during sentencing.
Welsh will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release on licence, and his notification requirements are lifelong.
