GEORGE PATTULLO'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN BLAIRGOWRIE AND KIRRIEMUIR REVEALED

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, ex-farmer George Pattullo, originally from Blairgowrie in Perthshire, was found guilty of severe animal welfare violations spanning over a year and a half.

The court proceedings uncovered a pattern of neglect and cruelty that inflicted immense suffering on numerous farm animals, including cattle and sheep, at Middle Coull Farm near Kirriemuir.

Between December 1, 2012, and April 25, 2013, Pattullo was responsible for causing unnecessary pain and distress to 19 cattle and approximately 250 sheep.

The investigation revealed that the animals were subjected to deplorable conditions, with inspectors discovering more than 50 decomposing sheep scattered across various locations on G&A Pattullo’s land in Lintrathen, Angus.

These carcasses were found in fields, within sheds, in a trailer, and even discarded in a wheelie bin, highlighting the extent of neglect.

During the court hearing, Pattullo admitted to multiple breaches of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.

He acknowledged failing to seek proper treatment for animals suffering from liver fluke, parasitic gastroenteritis, and lice infestations.

Additionally, he admitted to neglecting basic needs such as providing adequate nutrition and water during the winter months, which contributed to a very high mortality rate among the animals.

The court heard that Pattullo also failed to remove carcasses promptly, thereby increasing the risk of infection and disease spread.

Other failures included neglecting to provide dry bedding, a drained area, sufficient grazing, a suitable diet, and fresh water, all of which are fundamental to animal welfare.

It was also revealed that Allison Pattullo, who was initially co-accused alongside her husband, entered a plea of not guilty.

The Crown accepted her plea, and she was not convicted in this case.

Throughout the proceedings, George Pattullo expressed his distress over the lengthy legal process, describing it as the most difficult period of his life.

He lamented, “This has been the worst time of my life.

We’ll never get these four years back.” As part of his sentencing, Pattullo was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid community service.

Furthermore, he received a ten-year ban on keeping any animals, with the exception of dogs and cats, effectively prohibiting him from owning or caring for farm animals in the future.

The case has left a lasting impact on the community and highlights the ongoing importance of animal welfare enforcement in the region.
