GEORGE HINCHCLIFFE BUSTED IN CHADDESDEN FOR ILLEGAL BABYSITTING AND PARTY ATTENDANCE

In a troubling case that has raised serious concerns about child safety and offender management, George Hinchcliffe, a known sex offender from Chaddesden, was recently caught in the act of babysitting a young child, despite strict legal restrictions designed to prevent such situations.

Hinchcliffe, who resides on John Berrysford Close in Chaddesden, has a documented history of sexual offences involving minors. His criminal record includes a conviction from June 2015 for sex offences committed against a nine-year-old girl. As part of his sentence, he was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes specific restrictions on his interactions with minors.

According to the terms of the order, Hinchcliffe is prohibited from residing at any address where children under 16 live, and he must not be in the company of children unless their parents or guardians are fully aware of his conviction. These measures are intended to safeguard vulnerable minors from potential harm and to prevent repeat offences.

However, between 2017 and 2018, authorities discovered that Hinchcliffe had been present at multiple social gatherings and parties where children under 16 were present. Despite the restrictions, he attended various functions, often staying overnight at locations where minors were present. His presence at these events was in direct violation of the court order, raising serious concerns about his compliance and the effectiveness of supervision.

In a recent incident, Hinchcliffe was found to have been babysitting a child, an act that should have been explicitly forbidden under his SHPO. When questioned, he admitted to the offence, explaining that he was embarrassed to disclose his legal restrictions, stating, “I have got into a real mess here because I have been embarrassed to tell them about this.” His actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the legal safeguards put in place to protect children.

Prosecutor Julia King outlined the case, emphasizing that Hinchcliffe’s conviction for the sexual offence was established in June 2015. She detailed how, from 2017 onwards, he had been spending time with individuals who had children under 16, without informing them of his criminal history. She noted that he had stayed overnight at multiple addresses and attended numerous celebrations and parties where minors were present. Children at these events would sometimes jump on him or play with him, further illustrating his inappropriate presence around minors.

In September of the previous year, police became aware of the babysitting incident and initiated an investigation. Evidence collected included text messages from Hinchcliffe’s mobile phone, which indicated he had been in the company of children during this period. The analysis of his phone led to his arrest and subsequent charges.

Hinchcliffe pleaded guilty to seven counts of breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Judge Jonathan Bennett sentenced him to 22 months in a young offender’s institution, underscoring the seriousness of his violations. The judge remarked, “This order is there to protect young children, particularly young girls. You had become involved with people and had attended various functions including parties. On some occasions, you had stayed over at a house where children were present. And then, in September this year, it was discovered that you had been babysitting a child. You should have told these people about your order but instead you said, ‘I have got into a real mess here because I have been embarrassed to tell them about this’. You are quite prepared to breach an order.”

This case highlights ongoing concerns about the management and monitoring of convicted sex offenders, especially those with restrictions designed to prevent contact with minors. The community and authorities alike are reminded of the importance of vigilance and strict enforcement to ensure the safety of children in Chaddesden and beyond.
