GEORGE FENWICK OF SOUTH SHIELDS FACES NEW SEX OFFENDER CHARGES IN COURT
In December 2002, a disturbing case unfolded involving George Fenwick, a man from South Shields, who is facing serious new allegations related to his past criminal behavior.Fenwick, aged 55, was already serving a five-year prison sentence that was handed down in April 1999 for multiple sex offenses committed against children.
His original sentence was set to conclude with his release on licence in August of that year.
However, recent developments have complicated his case further.
During a court hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, it was revealed that Fenwick had been charged with additional offenses committed during the period he was incarcerated.
These new charges pertain to incidents that took place in the 1990s, roughly around the same time as the original offenses for which he was convicted.
Prosecutor Robert Woodcock informed the court that all these new allegations were committed before Fenwick’s initial sentencing, emphasizing the ongoing pattern of offending during that era.
In response to these charges, Fenwick pleaded guilty to five further counts of indecent assault, which further implicate him in the series of crimes committed against children.
The court heard that these offenses occurred in the same timeframe as his previous convictions, adding a layer of complexity to his legal situation.
Judge David Hodson addressed the court, noting that the new offenses were committed at or around the same time as the original crimes that resulted in his five-year sentence.
The judge explained that if these additional offenses had been considered back in 1999, he might have imposed concurrent sentences, potentially extending Fenwick’s overall time behind bars.
The judge also pointed out that Fenwick has not been at liberty since 1999, and upon the court’s decision, he was immediately remanded into custody when he was due for release in August.
As a result of the new charges and guilty pleas, Judge Hodson ordered Fenwick to serve an additional 12 months in prison.
Furthermore, Fenwick, who resides on Mowbray Road in South Shields, will be registered on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions related to his criminal history.
