GEORGE CRIPPS SENTENCED IN WILKINSON AVENUE, BRUCHE FOR SEX OFFENCE

In April 2002, a 51-year-old man named George Cripps, formerly residing on Wilkinson Avenue in Bruche, was convicted of a sex offence. Cripps had attempted to entice a schoolgirl into his car by exposing himself and asking if she would get inside.

Prosecutor John Oates explained that the 12-year-old victim noticed a car following her as she walked to school. Cripps rolled down his window and asked, "Are you going to get inside?" before revealing himself nude. The girl responded, "No, I can't because I don’t know you."

Cripps denied being naked or speaking to her but admitted to exposing himself.

Defence lawyer Simon Berkson stated, "He knows he has a problem and that is a good start to somebody not offending again. A short custodial sentence would not help the defendant."

Judge David Hale sentenced Cripps to a three-year community rehabilitation order, including mandatory treatment, and ordered him to be on the sex offenders’ register for five years. The judge remarked, "What you did would really merit a sentence of 12 months. On the other hand, when you come out, there would be no support for you. You have been open and frank, and that’s what is needed before you can help someone in your position."

The judge also warned Cripps, stating, "Any non-compliance with this sentence and you will go to prison."
