GEORGE CHALMERS SENTENCED FOR LIFE IN WEST YORKSHIRE MURDER OF RUTH BAKER

In a tragic case that has shocked the community of West Yorkshire, George Chalmers, aged 54, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to the murder of his partner, Ruth Baker. The incident took place at Chalmers' residence, located on Tempest Road in Leeds, and the court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of the crime.

On Wednesday, Leeds Crown Court handed down a sentence that requires Chalmers to serve a minimum of 17 years and six months before he is eligible for parole. The court heard that Chalmers had strangled Ms Baker during an argument at his home on the 30th of March. Following the act, Chalmers contacted emergency services and confessed to the police that he had strangled Ms Baker, according to reports from West Yorkshire Police.

In addition to the life sentence, Chalmers received a concurrent two-year prison term for assaulting Ms Baker and causing her actual bodily harm during a separate incident that occurred between the 3rd and 6th of November 2023. These assaults further compounded the severity of his actions.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to save her, Ruth Baker, who was originally from Carlisle, was pronounced dead at the scene within Chalmers' home. The police confirmed her death and described the circumstances as a tragic culmination of a violent altercation.
