BRUTAL RAPIST GEORGE CAMERON DIES AFTER PRISON INCIDENT
A rapist and road killer who spent 12 years in prison after a brutal murder attempt that left his victim in a "vegetative state" has died following an incident in prison.George Cameron, aged 36, was reported to have hanged himself at Perth Prison last Friday and was in intensive care at Perth Royal Infirmary until he died on Sunday evening.
Cameron had a history of violent and sexual offenses, including causing death by reckless driving, attempted murder, and rape.
In 2002, he received a 12-year sentence after attacking a 23-year-old mother in Dundee with severe violence that resulted in her suffering brain damage, leaving her in a "highly vegetative state".
Cameron was released in 2010 after serving approximately two-thirds of his sentence but was recalled shortly after for breaching license conditions.
His 12-year term officially ended on March 14, 2014, after which police served a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) banning him from contact with women and requiring him to disclose any social relationships with women.
Despite these restrictions, authorities were alerted in August of the previous year that Cameron was involved in a "social relationship" with a woman, leading to her daughter being removed from her care.
Cameron was arrested when officers found him at his Dundee flat, where he threatened self-harm with a knife, saying, "I’m not going back to jail, get out of my ******* house," and approaching them with the knife at his throat.
He was subsequently jailed for 41 weeks for this offense and released late last year.
His criminal record also includes a five-year jail sentence for causing death by reckless driving and a six-year sentence for rape handed down by Reading Crown Court in 1998.
In July 2002, he received a 12-year sentence for attempted murder at Edinburgh High Court.
The assault involved attacking a woman by punching, kicking, and locking her arm around her neck before throwing her down stairs, leaving her severely injured and in a coma.
The victim had multiple serious injuries, including a fractured skull, nose, and cheekbone, as well as a brain injury and signs of asphyxiation.
Medical professionals indicated her prognosis was grim, and she has shown little improvement since the attack.
The court described his actions as “a brutal, unwarranted attack on a young woman,” emphasizing the severity and violence of his crimes.
