OFFENDER GEOFFREY TAYLOR AND WILLIAM MCINTYRE SENTENCE REDUCED IN ENFIELD
In June 2006, a judge reduced the prison sentence of Geoffrey Taylor, a disabled paedophile from Enfield, citing concerns about the hardships his multiple sclerosis would cause him in prison.Taylor, 51, of Worcester Avenue, Enfield, was originally sentenced to six years in November for abusing a boy he befriended on the street when the boy was 13 years old. His co-accused and live-in partner, William McIntyre, 64, was also jailed after admitting to sexually assaulting the same boy.
In a separate appeal hearing at the Court of Appeal on May 23, Taylor’s sentence was cut to four years. This reduction was related to charges stemming from an incident in 2004, where Taylor and McIntyre coerced another teenage boy, who had the mental age of 14, into performing a degrading sexual act. The assault occurred in their caravan during a multiple sclerosis awareness camp in Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex.
Mr. Justice Newman, sitting with Judge Michael Mettyear, explained that Taylor’s illness was a key factor in the decision, stating that his disease made incarceration more of a hardship.
A neighbor of Taylor’s, who declined to be named, expressed outrage over the sentence reduction, saying: “It is disgusting Taylor has had his sentence reduced. He should be serving much longer for what he put those boys through.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Justice Newman also dismissed the appeal made on behalf of William McIntyre.
Background details reveal that Taylor, a former jockey, first met McIntyre in Newmarket in 1974. Despite being warned about McIntyre’s history as a serial sex offender, Taylor continued his relationship with him two years later. The couple initially lived in Bury St Edmunds before relocating to Enfield around 1981.
