SEVEN KINGS MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL STABBING OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
Genu Armeanu, aged 45, was found guilty of the murder of his former partner, Elisabeta Lacatusu, in Norfolk Road, Seven Kings.The deadly assault took place on January 3 around 7pm, when Armeanu launched a violent attack on Elisabeta outside her residence, stabbing her 19 times.
Surveillance footage combined with police investigations showed that Armeanu approached Elisabeta, engaged her in a measured conversation, then suddenly produced a knife and repeatedly stabbed her in the torso, neck, and chest.
The victim attempted to escape, staggering while clutching her neck.
She suffered multiple severe injuries, including at least 19 incised wounds and a significant wound to her neck.
During a police interview, Armeanu confessed to the killing, stating, "I know what I did." He explained that he acted out of love after discovering she was with another person, saying, "I found out she had been with somebody else.
That is why I killed her." Blood stains on his footwear matched Elisabeta’s DNA profile.
He was charged with murder and appeared at the Old Bailey for trial, entering a plea of not guilty.
However, after a brief jury deliberation, he was convicted.
The judge sentenced Armeanu to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 27 years and 199 days, highlighting the profound effect of his actions on Elisabeta’s family.
Her family, including her 17-year-old youngest daughter, submitted a victim impact statement expressing their deep grief and mourning, describing Elisabeta as a guardian angel and a vital source of support for her loved ones.
