UCL PROFESSOR WALKS FREE AFTER ABUSING WOMAN SEEKING SPERM DONOR
A university professor has been acquitted in court after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman who had contacted him to be a sperm donor.Professor Gennadij Raivich, 52, a perinatal neuroscientist at University College London, was involved in an incident where he assaulted the woman twice in November 2012.
The woman, aged 29, had reached out to Raivich through a sperm donation website with the goal of having a child.
During the trial at Blackfriars Crown Court, it was revealed that Raivich, who operated under a pseudonym in his advertisements, fathered 58 children through private artificial insemination.
He would visit women at their homes after they paid for the procedure.
Raivich, who lives on Thanet Street in Camden, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, on two counts of sexual assault.
He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £5,000.
The court did not reach verdicts on eight other charges of sexual assault, which included digital penetration.
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Adam Knott stated that Raivich exploited his medical qualifications to manipulate a woman in distress for his own sexual satisfaction.
He highlighted the victim’s courage in giving evidence that led to Raivich’s conviction for sexual offenses.
Police reiterated their call for victims to report any incidents, noting that offenders can come from any background and may be manipulative.
They advised individuals with information to contact police at 101 or maintain anonymity by calling Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
