DUNDEE SEX ATTACKER GAVIN JACKSON SENTENCED TO LIFE
A sex attacker who preyed upon two teenagers in Dundee has been hit with an extended prison sentence.Gavin Jackson, 37, is on the sex offenders register for life, having previously been convicted of targeting the young women.
Jackson denied the allegations at Dundee Sheriff Court but was found guilty by a jury.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael said: “The jury convicted you of two serious offences.
“Both involved taking advantage of the complainers and pressuring unwanted sexual advances on them.
You did this while you were in your 30s and these two women were then in their teens.” The victim impact statements make clear the negative impact that your actions have had.
Jackson returned to the dock for sentencing following the preparation of social work reports and little was offered in mitigation by defence solicitor Doug McConnell, who produced a letter from the charity With You to illustrate efforts his client had made to free himself from substance addiction.
The lawyer said: “He appreciates the nature of the matter and would work with anybody willing to work with him.
His position is the same as it was at the trial.” An extended sentence of 30 months in prison and 12 months in the community was imposed on Jackson who is now subject to sex offender notification requirements for the rest of his life.
Sheriff Carmichael granted seven-year non-harassment orders for Jackson’s victims.
