SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER FACES RETRIAL FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT
A South Yorkshire Police officer accused of sexually assaulting a 10 or 11-year-old boy will face a retrial after the jury in the case failed to reach a verdict.
PC Gary Scott, from Balby, Doncaster, who was a response officer in Rotherham, was on trial at Sheffield Crown Court charged with three counts of indecent assault said to have taken place between 2001 and 2003, before he joined the police force.
He was arrested last September following a report to the force's Professional Standards Department, and he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The trial was held on 11 December, but the jury could not reach a verdict, and so PC Scott will face a retrial scheduled for 9 February 2026.
He has been suspended from duty and is currently under internal misconduct investigation.
