ASHFORD MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AS VICTIM FINDS HER VOICE
A man named Gary Pallin from Caesar Avenue, Kingsnorth, Ashford, has been convicted and sentenced for multiple sexual offences against a minor, including rape. The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, expressed her feelings about the case in her victim statement, describing how she had felt shame, guilt, and fear but now feels pride for speaking out and fighting for the truth.
She stated that after decades of feeling ashamed and guilt-ridden, she managed to 'find her voice and fight for the truth.' In a touching courtroom speech, she recounted how Pallin’s deviant behavior robbed her of her innocence and dignity, profoundly affecting her education, relationships, and mental and physical health.
She described how the trauma impacted her life, leading her to feel overwhelmed by the abuse she endured.
Despite falsely claiming Pallin’s innocence during trial, she has since gained closure and justice.
Pallin, aged 58, was found guilty of all charges after a jury trial at Maidstone Crown Court.
The prosecution described him as a teenager when he committed the crimes, which he initially denied, giving a 'no comment' interview and accusing the victim of lying through his legal team.
Pallin's continued denial of the offences was considered by the judge during sentencing.
Sentencing him to three and a half years in prison, Judge Gareth Branston emphasized Pallin's awareness of his actions' harm and his continued refusal to accept responsibility.
The judge highlighted that Pallin had continued to deny guilt even after conviction and showed no remorse, despite many references praising his character and an otherwise law-abiding life.
Pallin was also ordered to undergo indefinite sex offender notification requirements upon release.
The victim expressed her pride in overcoming shame and speaking out, and she hopes her story will encourage others to find their voice.
Pallin’s actions, despite his age, were deemed harmful, and the judge pointed out that his behavior demonstrated a clear understanding that he was causing harm but chose to proceed for sexual gratification.
