GARY MEE FROM QUEENSBURY SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE AND ABUSE
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Queensbury, Gary Mee, aged 51, has been sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison after being found guilty of multiple counts of child rape and indecency with a minor. The case, which was heard at Bradford Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned several years and involved a young girl who was only 11 years old when the abuse began.According to court proceedings, Mee repeatedly subjected the girl to sexual assault during her teenage years, even after she became pregnant twice as a result of his actions. The first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, but three years later, she gave birth to Mee’s child. The jury, after a thorough deliberation, unanimously convicted Mee of eight counts of rape and three counts of indecency with a child. The severity of the crimes was underscored by the judge, who emphasized the profound impact on the victim’s life.
Judge Stephen Gullick, the Honorary Recorder of Bradford, addressed Mee directly in the courtroom, stating that he had robbed his victim of her innocence, childhood, and much of her education. The judge highlighted that the fact that the girl had conceived Mee’s child was a significant aggravating factor in the case. During the trial, it was revealed that Mee initially denied any sexual contact with the girl until DNA evidence proved otherwise, with the chances of him not being the father being one in nine million. Faced with this evidence, Mee attempted to fabricate a story claiming he had only had sex with her once, and that he was intoxicated at the time, believing she had flirted with him without his knowledge.
Throughout the proceedings, Mee maintained a stoic demeanor in the dock, showing no remorse for his actions. Judge Gullick ordered Mee to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. The judge condemned Mee’s conduct, stating that he had used manipulative tactics to exert control over the girl and exploit her for his own sexual gratification. The court was told that Mee began abusing the girl when she was just 11 years old, with the abuse becoming a regular and entrenched part of her life for several years.
Prosecutor Richard Mansell described how the abuse was relentless, involving frequent sexual intercourse that the girl believed she had to accept as part of her life until she confronted Mee in the late 1990s. Despite her confrontation, Mee showed no remorse or apology for the years of suffering inflicted upon her. The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Queensbury, highlighting the importance of vigilance and protection for vulnerable children. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of Mee’s crimes and the need for justice to be served for the young victim who endured years of abuse at his hands.
