A man from Doncaster has received a custodial sentence for child sexual offences after an investigation conducted by the Internet Sex Offences Team (ISOT).

Gary Hutton, aged 59 and residing in Bootham Crescent, used a social media platform to attempt to orchestrate sexual acts involving a minor.

On 25 February, Hutton interacted with a decoy account that he thought belonged to a woman who was willing to have her child sexually assaulted.

In reality, the account was operated by the Regional Organised Crime Unit as part of an undercover operation targeting online predators.

The next day, authorities arrested Hutton and confiscated his electronic devices, including three mobile phones, two tablets, a laptop, and a desktop computer, for forensic examination.

Analysis of these devices revealed discussions on one phone where Hutton talked about sexually abusing children connected to other profiles he had on the same platform.

Hutton was interviewed twice—the first on 26 February and once more the following day—but he declined to answer any questions, and remained silent during both interviews.

On the day after his questioning, he faced charges of attempting to arrange or enable child sex offences on three counts.

He initially maintained his innocence and entered a not guilty plea on 28 March at Sheffield Crown Court.

Nonetheless, on 11 September, he changed his plea and admitted guilt to two of the counts.

Hutton was kept in custody and sentenced today to a decade in prison, with an extra five years on licence.

He was also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict future conduct.
