GARY HINDS' HORRIFIC CRIMES IN DESBOROUGH, ETON, AND WINDSOR REVEALED

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Desborough, Eton, and Windsor, Gary Hinds, a man once associated with the Windsor-based Horse Rangers Association, has been exposed as one of the most dangerous serial child rapists in the United Kingdom. His heinous crimes, spanning several years, culminated in a 20-year prison sentence handed down in 2002, but recent developments indicate he has been granted a parole hearing scheduled for the upcoming months. If he is not granted release at that hearing, Hinds will be automatically released in July 2015, raising serious concerns among local residents and authorities alike.

Hinds, who was 38 years old at the time of his conviction, was found guilty of an appalling total of 32 counts of sexual abuse, including rape, indecent assault, and acts of buggery against eight young girls. The severity of his crimes was described by Judge Stanley Spence as the worst case of its kind he had ever encountered. The judge’s condemnation was rooted in the brutal and systematic nature of Hinds’ abuse, which took place at Windsor’s riding stables, where he was managing the facility for the charity Horse Rangers Association. This organization, which is based at the Royal Mews and counts Princess Michael of Kent as a patron, was criticized for its failure to recognize the danger Hinds posed, despite warning signs dating back to 1986.

Hinds, described as a chubby, bespectacled man, carried out his depraved acts over a period of nine years, beginning shortly after he took charge of the riding school. His victims, all young girls, were subjected to multiple assaults—three girls were raped on 15 separate occasions, while others endured additional acts of indecent assault and buggery. The crimes included some of the most disturbing violations, with Hinds assaulting victims in his own home, including in his children’s bedroom and the marital bedroom he shared with his wife, Barbara. His wife, upon discovering his actions, left the marriage, unable to cope with the betrayal and the horror of his deeds.

The abuse extended beyond Windsor, with Hinds also raping and molesting young girls under railway arches in nearby Eton. Authorities have proposed exclusion zones around the areas of Desborough, Eton, Windsor, and surrounding regions, which would prohibit Hinds from entering these zones to protect the community. These zones include major roads and neighborhoods, such as the B3034, Forest Road, A3095, Warfield Street, Locks Ride, Priory Road, Swinley Road, and others, effectively barring him from key parts of the local landscape.

Hinds’ criminal history dates back to April 2002, when he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his multiple offenses. The judge at the time condemned the Royal Mews-based charity for its failure to monitor Hinds adequately, emphasizing that the organization’s neglect allowed him to carry out his campaign of abuse. During the trial, the jury heard harrowing accounts from victims who described how Hinds used his influence and physical strength to coerce them into performing sex acts. Many victims recounted how he lured them with gifts, alcohol, and trips to see musicals like Starlight Express, exploiting their trust and innocence.

The court proceedings revealed that Hinds’ abuse was not confined to Windsor but also occurred in his own home, where some victims were assaulted in the presence of their own children. His wife, Barbara, who was deeply affected by the revelations, described her shock and heartbreak upon learning the full extent of his crimes. She recounted how she had unknowingly comforted a young rape victim after an attack, unaware of her husband’s involvement. Her testimony painted a picture of a woman devastated by betrayal, struggling to reconcile her love for her husband with the horrifying truth of his actions.

Barbara, who met Hinds at the age of 15, described how their relationship was initially based on admiration and flattery. She was a shy girl, attracted to his larger-than-life personality, and was flattered by his attention. Over time, however, she realized that his charm concealed a controlling and violent nature. She recounted how he became increasingly aggressive, physically abusive, and domineering, culminating in their divorce after eight years of marriage. Despite her efforts to protect her children, she discovered that Hinds had used his position at the riding school to prey on vulnerable girls, some of whom he recruited as babysitters. Her account detailed her feelings of guilt and helplessness, as she reflected on the signs she missed and the impact of his abuse on her family.

The case also highlighted the tragic irony that Hinds, once a respected figure in the community, had managed to hide his true nature for years. His victims, many from difficult backgrounds, were left shattered, and the community of Desborough remains deeply unsettled. Parents kept their children indoors during the lengthy prosecution, and some organized supervision routines to prevent further harm. The community’s trust in local institutions was severely damaged, and many now question how such a predator could have operated unnoticed for so long.

As Hinds awaits his potential release, the community grapples with the aftermath of his crimes. The proposed exclusion zones aim to prevent him from re-entering the areas he once terrorized, but the scars left by his actions will take years to heal. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance, responsibility, and the devastating impact of unchecked abuse. The community continues to mourn the innocence lost and hopes that justice, in whatever form it takes, will bring some measure of peace to the victims and their families.
