2016: DUDLEY MAN GARETH WHITE JAILED FOR ASSAULTING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE
A Dudley man who repeatedly punched his estranged wife in the face after a heavy drinking session has been jailed.Gareth White, aged 36, had gone to his former partner's home in Brierley Hill to try and mend his marriage.
But after becoming aggressive, White, of Stourbridge Road, hit his wife of nine years in the face a number of times, leaving her with a nose bleed.
White also took a large knife from the kitchen having threatened to stab other people living in the block of flats, Marcus Harry, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Mr Harry said that White also stole his former partner's mobile phone but he was quickly arrested when she alerted police after going to the home of a neighbour.
The court was told the marriage had ended because of problems caused by White but he had gone to her home uninvited and caused further trouble.
Alisha Harris, defending, said White had alcohol and drug problems that he was determined to resolve and said he was full of remorse for his actions.
She said he went to the house hoping for a reconciliation but his wife was now seeking a divorce.
White admitted battery, stealing the phone and knife, possessing an offensive weapon and breaching the community order he was given for possessing a knife and theft.
Recorder Benjamin Nicholls told White his previous convictions for carrying a knife was "worrying" and added: "You used serious violence on your wife.
This was unpleasant violence against a woman." He continued: "I hope you now appreciate your relationship with your ex-wife is over.
You had been given a chance with an order that was intended to try and help you." White was jailed for 14 months and made the subject of a two year restraining order forbidding him from having any contact with his ex-partner or from going to her home.
