PENYWAUN MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
A violent and abusive individual, Gareth Morgan, 29, from Penywaun, demonstrated a pattern of severe violence and control toward his partner. His violent acts included strangulation, punching, headbutting, and damaging property, which left his partner feeling terrified and isolated.
At a court hearing, it was revealed that Morgan repeatedly subjected his partner to horrific assaults, during which she believed she was going to die.
His extreme jealousy and controlling behavior led to multiple incidents, including an assault at a Hilton Hotel in Canary Wharf, London, on January 22, 2022, where he smashed glass, threw chairs, punched her in the face until she felt dizzy and sick, and she was pregnant at the time.
Throughout 2024, he continued to harass her with abusive messages, threats, and physical assaults, including headbutting her, causing a black eye, and stamping on her toes.
Morgan also intimidated her by entering her home without consent, pulling her by her hair, and making threats to harm her or her loved ones.
Despite her attempts to break free, his threats to kill her if she sought help kept her in fear.
Morgan handed himself into police on December 16, 2023, and pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior, intentional strangulation, assault occasioning ABH, and criminal damage.
He has a previous conviction for sexual assault.
During the court sentencing, Judge Eugene Egan criticized Morgan's behavior, describing his actions as bullying, intimidating, and abusive; Morgan was sentenced to 24 months in prison and was subject to a 10-year restraining order.
The victim expressed ongoing fear, anxiety, and mental health struggles resulting from his abuse, and the court emphasized the contrast between Morgan's professed love and his abusive actions.
