2014: DAD JAILED FOR HEADBUTTING PARTNER IN FRONT OF YOUNG CHILD
A man who headbutted his partner in front of a young child has received a 22-week prison term.During a hearing at Bolton Magistrates Court, District Judge Jonathan Finestein was informed that Gareth Edgington assaulted Lindsey Derbyshire on November 3 of the previous year, resulting in swelling and minor facial injuries.
Prosecutor Steve Woodman stated that this was Edgington's third assault on her, noting that three weeks prior he had been imprisoned for attacking his brother.
The 26-year-old, residing on Oxford Grove in Heaton, pleaded guilty to attacking Ms Derbyshire, his partner of eight years with whom he shares three children.
Defence solicitor Kimberley Morton mentioned that Edgington has lost his job as a warehouse worker since the incident and recognises that his relationship with Ms Derbyshire has ended.
Edgington expressed remorse for his actions.
District Judge Finestein told him that his criminal history was concerning and emphasized that a headbutt constitutes a particularly serious form of assault, leaving no choice but to impose an immediate custodial sentence.
