FREDERICK NOY, DORCHESTER CHILD MOLESTER, SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In a case that has shocked the community of Dorchester, Frederick William Vernon Noy, a 65-year-old former chaplain, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving young girls. The crimes, which span several decades, include two separate counts of indecency with a minor, and the details of the case have left many residents appalled and distressed.

Frederick Noy, who previously served as a chaplain for the deaf in Dorset, was found guilty by a jury in January following a trial at Dorchester Crown Court. The court heard that Noy committed one of the offences while out walking in the woods near Dorchester, where he indecently assaulted a girl whose age ranged between five and ten years old at the time. The second incident took place at his residence on Casterbridge Road in Dorchester, involving a female victim approximately ten years old.

Both victims had remained silent for many years, with one only coming forward in 2009 and the other in 2011, after discovering that Noy was still working with children despite his past. The revelations prompted the victims to break their silence and report the abuse, leading to Noy’s arrest in 2011. The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report, during which the court considered the impact of Noy’s actions on the victims and the community.

During the sentencing hearing, a victim impact statement was read aloud, in which one of the victims described Noy as an ‘animal’ who had ‘destroyed my life’. The court also heard that despite the convictions, some members of the community had written letters supporting Noy, which the judge acknowledged. Robin Leach, representing Noy, argued that the defendant had suffered enough punishment by letting his family down and living with the stigma of his crimes. Leach emphasized that Noy had a close family who supported him and that the stress of the situation could potentially worsen his existing heart problems, raising concerns about his health during incarceration.

Prosecutor David Scutt highlighted that Noy was once a trusted figure in the community, a man who had betrayed that trust through his criminal actions. Judge Roger Jarvis sentenced Noy to 15 months for each offence, with the sentences to run consecutively, totaling 30 months in prison. The judge expressed his dismay at the damage caused to Noy’s family and emphasized the gravity of his betrayal, noting that Noy, as an ordained member of the church, was expected to be a figure of trust and moral integrity.

In addition to his prison sentence, Noy was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and was made subject to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Dorchester, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and safeguarding against abuse by those in positions of trust.
