FRASER GUNN ARBROATH THUG SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK AND BREACH OF COURT ORDERS

A man from Arbroath, identified as Fraser Gunn, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after a series of violent incidents involving his former partner. Gunn, aged 36 and residing on Grange Place, was convicted of attacking his ex-partner and breaching a court order designed to keep him away from her. His actions included a brutal assault at her home in Auchmithie, where he broke the court-imposed restrictions and subjected her to physical violence, as well as making threats against her family.

The incident occurred after Gunn and the woman had been drinking together. According to the court proceedings, the relationship between the two had lasted approximately eight months. On the evening of January 27, the pair was socializing when the situation suddenly deteriorated. The court heard that Gunn, who had been drinking, became unexpectedly aggressive without any apparent provocation. During this altercation, he forcibly grabbed the woman in the hallway and declared his intention to torture her family, a statement that underscored the severity of his threats.

Following this, Gunn proceeded to punch the woman multiple times in the ribs, inflicting physical harm. After the assault, he calmed down and returned to the living room, leaving her visibly distressed. The woman managed to contact police shortly after 1:30 am, providing only her address and requesting immediate assistance. Her quick thinking likely prevented further harm.

In court, Gunn admitted to breaching his bail conditions and acknowledged injuring the woman through repeated physical assaults. He also previously admitted to acting abusively on Grant Street last year. His solicitor, Billy Rennie, emphasized that Gunn recognizes the gravity of his actions and has taken responsibility. Rennie pointed out that Gunn’s behavior is significantly influenced by alcohol consumption, noting that he exhibits different character traits when sober compared to when intoxicated.

The court heard that Gunn’s history includes a previous conviction from 2014, when he was sentenced to three years in prison for robbing a legal high shop at knife point in Arbroath. During that incident, Gunn demanded items from staff while threatening them with a weapon, and he returned the following day without the knife, attempting to repeat his demands. The shopkeeper managed to fend him off using a skateboard.

Sheriff Krista Johnston sentenced Gunn to just over eight months in prison, with the sentence backdated to February 28, the day he was initially remanded. She expressed her disapproval of Gunn’s record and attitude towards women, stating, “You have an appalling record. Your attitude and behaviour towards women is appalling.” The sheriff acknowledged the opportunities Gunn had previously been given for community-based disposals but concluded that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate course of action.

Additionally, Gunn was issued an 18-month non-harassment order to protect his victim from further contact or intimidation. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the offences and the need to safeguard the victim from future harm, emphasizing the importance of accountability for violent and unlawful conduct in the community of Arbroath.
