FRANK BARHAM FROM GREAT SUTTON CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CHESTER
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Frank Barham, a 69-year-old former driving instructor from Great Sutton, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses committed over nearly two decades.The conviction stems from a lengthy trial held at Chester Crown Court, where the jury deliberated for almost 19 hours over a span of three weeks before reaching their verdicts on Friday, November 8.
Barham, who operated the now-defunct Frank's School of Motoring in Ellesmere Port, faced a total of thirteen charges related to sexual and indecent assaults.
The jury convicted him on three counts of sexual assault and all nine counts of indecent assault.
However, they acquitted him on four additional counts of sexual assault, indicating that the evidence did not support those particular allegations.
The charges against Barham involved attacks on both teenage and adult women, with incidents dating back from 1999 through 2017.
These assaults occurred during the course of his driving instruction, a profession that allowed him access to vulnerable individuals seeking to learn how to drive.
The case gained further prominence after initial proceedings in January of this year, when Barham faced charges related to six complainants.
The first jury was unable to reach a verdict on any of the counts, leading to a mistrial.
Following media coverage of the case, two additional women came forward with similar allegations, prompting the police to reopen investigations and bring new charges against Barham.

As the court proceedings concluded, a sentencing date was scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, at Chester Crown Court.
Due to court time constraints, a formal sentencing was not possible on the day of the verdict.
Barham, who resides on Halton Road in Great Sutton, was remanded in custody immediately after the trial, with no bail granted.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Patrick Thompson issued a stern warning to Barham, stating, "You have been convicted on a number of offences.
I am sure you appreciate you face a significant custodial sentence." The judge also expressed gratitude to the jury for their diligent service in this complex and sensitive case.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and accountability within professions that involve trust and authority, especially when vulnerable individuals are involved.
