FHAIM BHAYAT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN THORNHILL AND DEWSBURY MOSQUE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Thornhill and Dewsbury, Fhaim Bhayat, a 24-year-old man from Dale Street, Thornhill, has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of multiple sexual assault charges involving an 11-year-old boy.The incidents reportedly began during the summer of 2013. The young boy, who was on his way home one afternoon, encountered Bhayat, whom he knew by name. Bhayat approached the boy while he was riding his bike and instructed him to get on. The boy complied, and Bhayat rode alongside him to nearby woods. Once there, Bhayat committed a sexual assault against the boy, an act that would be repeated on two other occasions in the same wooded area.
The assaults did not stop in the woods. On a later occasion, Bhayat took the boy to a mosque in Dewsbury. Inside a private room, the boy was left alone with Bhayat. During this encounter, Bhayat instructed the boy to sit up and read a Holy book. At that moment, there was a knock at the door, and Bhayat left the room to answer it. It was at this point that the boy’s father, concerned about his son’s lateness, arrived at the mosque and found Bhayat alone with the boy.
When the boy returned home, he confided in his family about what had happened during the various incidents. His father then confronted Bhayat, who denied any wrongdoing. Bhayat claimed that no assaults had taken place and insisted that others were present in the mosque at the time of the alleged incident, contradicting the boy’s account.
During the trial, prosecutor David Gordon outlined the timeline and details of the assaults, emphasizing the pattern of behavior and the betrayal of trust involved. Bhayat’s defense lawyer, Tim Capstick, acknowledged that prison would be difficult for Bhayat but noted that his family remained supportive of him.
Judge Neil Clark sentenced Bhayat to two years in prison last Friday. In his remarks, the judge stated, “You took advantage of this boy after threatening him not to say anything, and the offences only came to light because his father found you alone with him in darkness at the mosque. What you did has had a significant effect on an innocent young boy.”
In addition to the custodial sentence, Bhayat was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure aimed at protecting the community and preventing further harm. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Thornhill and Dewsbury, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse.
