CARE WORKER FAZAL MATEEN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS
A care home worker abused his position to sexually assault two women. The full details of Fazal Mateen’s offending cannot be revealed to protect the identities of the two complainants, but a judge said on Thursday (October 23) at Bradford Crown Court that the 45-year-old was almost certainly never going to work in the caring industry again.
The court heard that former Bradford care worker Mateen had sat next to the first complainant and put her hand on his crotch area.
The second offence took place a year later when Mateen grabbed the hands of a vulnerable woman and tried to move them towards his penis.
The court heard that Mateen also touched the second woman’s bottom and later told her not to tell anyone.
Mateen, of Tivoli Place, Bradford, pleaded guilty to two offences of sexual assault and Judge Christopher Smith said he would receive credit because he had spared a vulnerable victim having to give evidence in court.
But Judge Smith said Mateen, who had no previous convictions, had not shown any remorse and his pre-sentence report made “worrying reading”.
“You told the probation officer these things had not happened,” said Judge Smith.
“So it goes beyond simply an absence of remorse.
It goes to an outright denial.” The judge said the offences had been an abuse of Mateen’s position of trust and he had come to the conclusion that the prison could not be suspended in his case.
In addition immediately jailing him for 23 months, Judge Smith also banned Mateen from having any contact with the complainants and said he would have to register as a sex offender with the police for the next 10 years.
He told him: “The offence that you have been convicted of is one which will make you subject to barring from working with children and others."
