HUDDERSFIELD NURSE RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER FOR SEX MESSAGES TO GIRL
A 39-YEAR-OLD nurse has been given a three-year community order after he exchanged sexually explicit Facebook messages with a 14-year-old girl.A judge yesterday branded the exchanges between Faisal Arabian and the ‘troubled’ Huddersfield teenager as ‘disgusting’.
Over a 10-day period in December 2010 the married father-of-two, who worked at the Bradford Royal Infirmary, requested a meeting with the girl and even told her he was just 23.
Prosecutor Jayne Beckett told Bradford Crown Court that Arabian was aware of the girl’s age because her date of birth was contained in her Facebook details.
Mrs Beckett said Arabian told the girl she was gorgeous and even suggested that she must be a model.
Although the girl did not take or send Arabian any naked pictures of herself to the defendant, he pleaded guilty in December to one charge of inciting her to do so.
Judge John Potter said the exchanges between the defendant and his victim were graphic and unpleasant.
The contact came to light after her mother was shown her Facebook page.
Her brother then confronted Arabian over Facebook, but he denied responsibility.
Arabian blamed someone else for hacking into his Facebook account and maintained that account when questioned by police.
The court heard that Arabian had no previous convictions and Judge Potter was handed impressive testimonials on his behalf.
Judge Potter warned Arabian that if he had not pleaded guilty he would have received an immediate prison sentence after a trial.
The judge said Arabian had instigated sexually explicit conversations with the girl and may have sent her a sexually explicit picture of himself.
“The content of some of the material that you sent to this 14-year-old girl in terms of the words used and expressions therein is frankly disgusting,’’ the judge told him.
“They portray you in the early stages, in my judgement, of trying to establish some form of sexual contact with a young girl.’’ Concern was raised about the danger Arabian may pose in the future, but the three-year community order – which includes attendance on a sex offenders treatment programme – was focused on his apparent attraction to young girls.
Arabian will also be subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order banning him from having unsupervised contact with under 16s and will have to register as a sex offender for the next five years.
His conviction also means he is now banned from working with children.
