TEEN CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL GETS COURT CHILL
A teenager named Evan Moncrieff, aged 18, from Gott, Tingwall, has been involved in serious criminal activity related to indecent images and videos of children.Police discovered more than two hours of indecent videos on his mobile phone following a search conducted in August 2024.
Moncrieff also admitted to possessing 46 indecent images of children on an iPhone, including 10 categorized as most serious (Category A).
His offending was prompted by concerns raised by co-workers about social media accounts he followed and the content he posted.
The investigation revealed that he had been actively engaging in and requesting explicit videos and images, showing a clear sexual predilection linked to the material found.
All crimes occurred while Moncrieff was only 17.
During the police search, he cooperated by providing PINs for two devices.
The search uncovered indecent images classified as 10 Category A, 27 Category B, and 9 Category C, totalling 46 images, plus 11 Category A videos, 9 Category B, and 1 Category C, lasting over two hours.
Evidence also indicated communication with an individual via Telegram, with access to 19 of the videos.
The police seized both phones, and the court considered forfeiting these devices.
The case was deferred for background reports, with sentencing scheduled for August 27, 2025.
The court did not impose sexual offender notification requirements, as the offenses took place before he turned 18, but this will be reviewed at the next hearing.
