OZMAN FROM TURKEY JAILED FOR LIFE FOR DOUBLE MURDER IN OXFORDSHIRE
Ensar Gol, a 22-year-old originally from Turkey, has been sentenced to at least 36 years in prison after killing his wife and mother-in-law in Oxfordshire. The incident took place on September 4, 2011, at the couple’s residence in Thame, where Gol stabbed his 28-year-old wife, Michala, multiple times.
When her mother, Julie Sahin, aged 50, and a friend named Casey Wilson, attempted to intervene, Gol attacked them with a knife, leading to Mrs.
Sahin’s death.
Gol faced charges of two murders and one attempted murder but was convicted following a trial held at Oxford Crown Court.
He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Gol had sent a Facebook message describing himself as a ‘wild Turkish wolf ready to slit their throats’ shortly before the attacks.
CCTV footage showed Gol holding his daughter and carrying the murder weapon in Oxford’s High Street before police arrested him.
Witnesses gave evidences on how the crime affected the victims’ families, with Judge David Sweeney condemning Gol’s conduct, saying, ‘The pain and suffering you have caused to the family will plainly be long-lasting and with them for the rest of their lives.’ Court hearings disclosed that Gol met his wife during a holiday in Turkey, and the murders involved multiple stabbing incidents, including one where Gol repeatedly stabbed his wife in front of their three-year-old daughter.
The case prompted widespread concern and was regarded as one of the most serious domestic violence cases ever seen in the area.
