ELWIN END SENTENCED FOR ABUSE IN DOVER: HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES REVEALED

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dover, a man named Elwin End has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison after being found guilty of abusing young girls over an eight-year period. The abuse, which took place between December 1976 and January 1984, involved multiple instances of indecent assault and indecency with minors, with some victims as young as ten years old at the time.

Elwin End, aged 62 and residing on Lower Road in Temple Ewell near Dover, appeared before Canterbury Crown Court in February to face these serious charges. The prosecution, led by Caroline Knight, detailed the horrific nature of the crimes, revealing that End exploited his position while working at a nursery to carry out his offenses. He would indecently touch the young girls, force them to view pornographic magazines and films, and isolate individual victims to carry out his assaults. Some of the abuse occurred in secluded locations such as a hay loft, where End took young girls to commit these acts.

One of the victims believed she may have been raped by End, although he was not formally charged with that specific crime. Other girls were subjected to abuse while sitting with End on his tractor, highlighting the disturbing extent of his predatory behavior. During the court proceedings, Miss Knight emphasized that the abuse began when the victims were very young, with some as young as ten, and continued over several years.

The court heard that End was confronted about his actions in 1984, at which point he denied any wrongdoing. Despite this, the victims did not have the courage to pursue their complaints at the time, which resulted in the abuse ceasing temporarily. The revelation of these crimes only came to light recently, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial.

Throughout the proceedings, End maintained that he had no prior criminal record. His defense lawyer, John Warrington, expressed remorse and regret on his behalf, stating that End was deeply ashamed of his actions. Warrington described End as a man who has been profoundly affected by his own behavior, which has not only devastated the lives of his victims but also ruined his own life and family. He added that End was uncertain about his future, including whether he would have a home to return to after serving his sentence.

As part of his punishment, End has been permanently barred from working with children and will be registered as a sex offender for at least five years. The court also issued a sexual offences prevention order, restricting End from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian or in incidental situations such as in a shop or at a bus stop. Additionally, the 129 days End spent in custody on remand will be credited towards his sentence.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance and safeguarding in communities like Dover, where such heinous crimes have been uncovered after years of silence. The community and the victims now face the difficult process of healing and ensuring that justice is fully served.
