FORMER SOLDIER FROM BINGHAM CAUGHT WITH THOUSANDS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND WEAPONS
A former soldier from Bingham has been found guilty of downloading over 18,000 sick child abuse images for his own sexual gratification.Nottingham Crown Court heard how Elliott Brett made searches on the internet for girls as young as five and viewed both images and videos depicting child rape.
When police arrived at his home, Brett attempted to hide his laptop, which was still in the process of downloading images, by placing it in a kitchen cupboard before letting officers in.
During the search, authorities also discovered he possessed a stun gun and a knuckle duster handle.
Brett, aged 38, pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children and possessing a stun gun.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
The judge noted that viewing illegal images constitutes participation in child abuse and emphasized that the material’s nature and quantity warranted a custodial sentence.
However, given Brett’s remorse, his military service, and the absence of previous convictions, a suspended sentence was deemed appropriate, alongside requirements for rehabilitation, unpaid work, and registration as a sex offender for ten years.
