Persistent stalker Elliot Fogel has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after breaching a life-time restraining order designed to prevent him harassing a married woman.
Fogel, 36, of Edgware, north London, was given the order in 2005 after a court heard he had become obsessed with his former schoolmate Claire Waxman.
Fogel made the headlines in 2005 when the extent of his obsession with Mrs Waxman was revealed during a trial at Brent Magistrates’ Court, which ended with him being convicted of harassment.
He was jailed for 16 weeks in January 2010 after breaking the terms of the order, and a court official today confirmed he had been handed a longer custodial sentence for a further breach.
They met at Oaklands College in St Albans, Hertfordshire as teenagers, but never had any kind of friendship.
He was found to have carried out 40,000 internet searches of her name in a 12-month period, and to have bombarded her with gifts, letters and anonymous emails, as well as regularly turning up at her office.
Fogel was given a life-time restraining order that banned him from contacting Mrs Waxman, going within a mile of her home or workplace, and retrieving or storing any information in any media about her.
