CARDIFF MAN JAILED NINE YEARS FOR HOTEL ROOM RAPE
A 20-year-old man, Elliot Campinge, has been sentenced to nine years in jail after being convicted of attacking and raping a woman on Boxing Day.The incident occurred at the Maldron Hotel in Cardiff city center, where Campinge and his co-defendant, Alanzo Falkner, 19, were visiting from Birmingham.
Prosecutors reported that Campinge forcibly sexually assaulted the woman in her sleep and continued the attack after she tried to resist.
The court heard that DNA evidence linked Campinge to the assault, and also indicated that Falkner had raped her without her knowledge while she was asleep.
Falkner was acquitted of rape, but Campinge was found guilty of assault by penetration, assault by beating, and rape.
During sentencing, Mr.
Justice Recorder Geraint Walters stated, "She told you to stop, and you didn't.
You asked her for sex, and she said no.
So you took to violence, you hit her and you physically manhandled her.
She was that scared she told you that you could do anything to her." Campinge showed no remorse as he was led away after the verdict.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was in a vulnerable state and offered to perform a sex act on Campinge to escape, but he caught her and continued the assault.
The prosecution emphasized that the assault was committed with violence and that DNA proved Falkner's involvement in another rape on her during the incident.
