BRISTOL ENTREPRENEUR AND COMMUNITY ORGANISER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
Efiom Ene-Obong, a Bristol entrepreneur and community organiser, was sentenced for multiple sexual offences. The court heard he repeatedly sexually assaulted a girl, with the victims revealing devastating lifelong impacts.
He pleaded guilty to 80 acts including indecent assault, sexual touching, and possession of child abuse images.
Judge Michael Vere-Hodge QC stated: “This was a classic conversation by a man who has inadequacies in dealing with adults and finds it extremely easy to talk to a 14-year-old to get him to like him,” adding that his actions caused significant psychological damage.
He was handed a 16 months sentence and told to register as a sex offender for ten years.
The victims' impact statements described feelings of shame, despair, and ongoing trauma, with one victim saying: “I feel he robbed me of my childhood...
I want him to serve a long sentence and never harm another child.” Police recovered a large collection of child abuse images, including 27 videos and 93 images in Category A, the most serious level, depicting children aged from 18 months to nine years old.
Investigations revealed that Ene-Obong used his community profile to groom victims, showing a disturbing pattern of abuse and manipulation.
Despite his claims of remorse and intentions to stop offending, the court found the risk of re-offending high and sentenced him accordingly.
The judge emphasized the brutality of his acts: “This case has revealed that whilst you displayed qualities of diplomacy and community service, those same qualities masked a dark predatory behavior that only came to light during this trial.”
