EDWARD MORAN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD ABUSE IN MANCHESTER
In January 2005, Edward Moran, a 62-year-old man from Manchester, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of 18 counts of child abuse. Moran, residing on Yew Walk in Partington, pleaded not guilty to six counts of rape, six counts of indecent assault, and two counts of cruelty to a child. He also denied two counts of indecent assault on a male, one count of indecency with a child, and one count of attempting to commit an offence.The sentencing took place on Friday at Minshull Street Crown Court. Moran was convicted in December 2004. Reports of incidents involving rape and sexual abuse had been made to police three years earlier. The allegations involved a girl, with dates spanning from when she was seven to 16 years old during the 1960s and 1970s. Subsequently, another woman and a man also reported being sexually assaulted by Moran.
Detective Constable Linda Parry of Greater Manchester Police commented on the case, stating, "This is a man who took advantage and abused vulnerable children. It has been a traumatic experience for all the people concerned, and it has taken a lot for them to come forward."
